REI NWA Builders Circle: Building with Containers – Bentonville says OK!
August 1, 2019 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Building with shipping containers is the newest trend sweeping the nation and it’s landed in Bentonville! On July 17, the NWA Dem Gazette reported that Bentonville Planning Commission had approved a permit for a two-container building to be built in the heart of downtown.
The two-story structure will house Spoke Adventures, a bike rental business and is scheduled to open in 2-3 weeks. Two containers are stacked in a L-shape configuration comprising 250 sf. Total estimated cost is $25,000-$35,000 and time for project completion estimated at 2-3 weeks.
Jesse Hull is co-owner of Spoke Adventures. He and his other co-owners, Barry Furuseth and Paul Juozaitis, are the driving force behind getting the project approved. He and his partners worked with city planners to create a Win-Win for their business as well as the City of Bentonville.
Melissa Lee has been researching shipping containers as a model for building affordable housing in NWA for years. A real estate agent with Keller Williams and retired Army Lt Col, she brings a wide variety of experiences to this topic.
Tonight they’ll discuss:
- Obtaining shipping containers
- Background on the Permit Process
- Site prep considerations
- Best practices for building/joining containers
